Privacy Policy

Corning Credit Union created this Privacy Policy to demonstrate our firm commitment to safeguarding the privacy of our members. We are committed to protecting the safety and privacy of each member's financial records and other nonpublic information consistent with state and federal laws. We take prudent and reasonable measures to safeguard the accuracy and privacy of all member information used while conducting business, including business conducted via the Internet, ATM networks, wire services, telephone, the U.S. mail, and other means of communication. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with federal regulations to guard members' nonpublic, personal information. All Credit Union employees are required to adhere to the Corning Credit Union Code of Ethics, which requires them to maintain the confidentiality of all Credit Union and member information. We do not collect or maintain information about our members that is not essential for prudent business purposes. The Credit Union does not disclose information about our members or former members to third parties except as permitted or required by law.

How information is collected

We collect information such as name, address, social security number, and assets and income information through membership applications, account and service applications, loan applications and related forms that members and prospective members submit. Some of these forms are available for completion and submission on our website. We obtain additional information from other sources when verifying the information members provide on applications and other forms. For example, we obtain information from a member's current or past employers, from other institutions where a member conducts financial transactions, and information relating to a member's transactions involving our products and services (such as members' account balances, payment history, parties to transactions, and credit card usage). In addition, we obtain information regarding members' creditworthiness and credit history from credit reporting agencies in connection with making loan decisions, making, servicing and collecting loans, and granting Checking Account and Check Card privileges. Information obtained from our members is kept secure and access to that information is limited within the Credit Union to personnel who need to know the information to provide products or services to our members and properly operate the Credit Union.

How collected information is used

We may disclose information we collect from membership and loan applications and other forms to: our affiliated companies; to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf; to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements; and to other related business partners. The types of information we disclose may include, for example, a member's name, address, social security number, and income. Member information is provided to business partners in connection with statement and mailings distribution, after-hours and automated servicing, credit card authorizations, guaranteeing member share drafts, and reporting credit history information to credit reporting agencies. The Credit Union requires all recipients of nonpublic, personal information to maintain our strict confidentiality and privacy policies. Federal Law protects the information the Credit Union provides to credit reporting agencies and its use is strictly governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. We may also disclose information we collect about members under other circumstances as permitted or required by law. These circumstances typically include disclosures of information necessary to process transactions on behalf of our members, conduct the operations of the Credit Union, perform actions authorized by a member, protect the security of our financial records, or comply with applicable law or court order.
