"CFCU" Phishing Alert
Another phishing attempt has surfaced. There is currently a phishing email circulating that is targeting "CFCU Members." Below is an example of the contents of the email that is being sent. Please note - this email does NOT name Corning Credit Union at any time. It is not a phishing attempt that is directly targeting Corning Credit Union members.

Subject: Confirm Your Account Status
Dear CFCU Member:
Due to recent account takeovers and unauthorized listings, CFCU is introducing a new account verification
method. From time to time, randomly selected accounts are subjected to an advanced verification process
based on our merchant accounts/bank relations and customer debit card.
Your account is not suspended, but if in 48 hours after you receive this message your account is not
confirmed, we reserve the right to suspend your CFCU registration.
CFCU is committed to assist law enforcement with any inquires related to attempts to misappropiate
personal information with the intent to commit fraud or theft.

The website that the phishers are linking to in this email has been taken down and does not pose a threat to anyone who receives this.
Although this was not a direct phishing attempt on Corning Credit Union members, it is a reminder to us all that new phishing attempts are continually surfacing and that the best defense to protect yourself is to delete this type of email and do not ever respond with personal information. Legitimate companies, including Corning Credit Union and our business partners, would never send an email requesting your confidential information. If you do receive an email like this from ANY vendor that you do business with, including Corning Credit Union, do not divulge your personal information and call them using their published phone number.
