Mortgagee Clause
What is a Mortgagee Clause?
A Mortgagee Clause is added to a property owner’s insurance policy as a provision which protects the lender, also known as the Mortgagee, from bearing major losses on their investment.
What is the importance of a Mortgagee Clause?
A provision of the Mortgagee Clause specifies that in the event of damage or loss to the property, the Insurance Company will make payments to the Mortgagee. The Mortgagee Clause ensures that the loss will be paid to the Lender. It also protects the Lender if the Mortgagor damages the property, resulting in policy cancellation by the insurance provider.
